ABOUT US

Transforming lives through excellent education

London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.

Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.

Student Services provides a range of student support, information, guidance and development services across the University. The department is composed of: Student Money & Accommodation Advice (SMAA); Counselling Service; and Disabilities & Dyslexia Service (DDS). These teams work closely together (and with other sections of the University) to provide the best possible services to our students, to enhance the student experience, to help students achieve their full potential and to meet the strategic aims of the University.

ABOUT THE POST

The Counselling Service Manager will provide strategic leadership for the multi-disciplinary Counselling Service Team which contributes to continuation and retention by enabling students to manage their emotional, psychological and mental wellbeing. They will lead a core team supported by a wider group of volunteer associates and trainees. Working within the wider context of the Student Services Department, they will establish and maintain close links with related student and staff support teams. With a strong and proven track record of assessing and managing clinical risk and strong management skills, the post-holder will provide proven expert guidance and specialist expertise in the areas of student mental health and welfare incidents, ensuring an excellent support service is delivered to students in line with the University’s strategy.

The post-holder will, in conjunction with the Head of Student Services and other key stakeholders, lead on embedding across the institution a clear and positive strategy around mental health. They will also build effective networks with a range of other University services and teams, the Students’ Union and external services, and make sure that the whole of the team is also building such networks.
