About the role

The Operations Manager will assume day to day operational management of a team of three staff to deliver efficient and effective services across a broad portfolio including ensuring the smooth operation of laboratories, delivery of health and safety, facility management and estates support. An abridged list of duties include

General management and Building responsibilities

  • Management of a team of staff responsible for security, reception/goods received, portering, post and reprographics, including workload management, appraisal and skills development.
  • Primary liaison with the University’s central security team, carrying out security risk assessments and advising senior management on all security issues.
  • Nominated key holder and authorised person for the access control system and setting appropriate access levels for users of the building.
  • Point of contact for external contractors and UCL Estates staff carrying out work on site, including making any special arrangements, liaising with building users as necessary and helping to arrange appropriate, safe access to areas of the building.
  • Working with the UCL facilities manager, to oversee the outsourced cleaning and waste management contract to ensure good standards are maintained throughout the Division, including in all laboratories.
  • To ensure that the fabric of the building is maintained, working closely with UCL Estates

Main Health & Safety responsibilities

  • To undertake the role of Divisional Safety Officer and work alongside central Safety Services and, as appropriate, on behalf of the Director in the management of regular reporting and action planning on safety.
  • Providing leadership in improving safety in conjunction with UCL policy and best practice.

About you

The Operations Manager will help ensure that the UCL School of Pharmacy meets the Health and Safety objectives of the University and will manage the maintenance of the

  • fabric, services, facilities and environmental controls of UCL infrastructure within the Division’s boundaries.
  • The role holder is the Divisional lead for the security of the building and management of the front of house team.
  • The Operations Manager will be the Divisional Safety Officer and play a significant role in facilitation of all University initiatives for Health and Safety such as fire evacuation, waste disposal, risk management and emergency planning.
  • The role holder acts as building manager and is responsible for liaison between UCL central services and the Division for estates projects including input into the design and specification of major and minor refurbishment projects and the facilitation of such works, liaising and delegating these duties to Departmental colleagues as appropriate.

Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the role holder will operate as a senior team leader within the Division, managing change processes as appropriate and contributing to management decisions in the areas identified.
