Office of the Vice-Chancellor (OVC)
This role is based within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, which is home to senior leaders of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Secretary, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the two Pro-Vice-Chancellors (for Education and Research), as well as other senior professional services staff, including the Deputy University Secretary, the Deputy Registrar, the Assistant Registrar, and the Chief of Staff. The Office has oversight of the majority of legal matters for the University, leads on information governance, and also manages all corporate governance arrangements in support of Council, the University’s governing body.
Duties of the Role
This exciting and newly created role will include responsibility and leadership for the development and management of a diverse range of educational agreements and contracts, with a focus on transnational activity. The role-holder will play an integral part in contract negotiations, representing the University and collaborating with our external legal advisors where necessary. The role-holder will embed best practices in educational contract development and management across the University and will build and sustain strong working relationships internally and with senior staff and governors.
Skills and qualifications required
The skills and background needed for this role include demonstrable experience in contract law and in managing contracts, an understanding of the UK higher education transnational partnership landscape and an ability to interpret and apply the law in alignment with the University’s needs. Accuracy and attention to detail, negotiation and acute problem-solving skills, as well as excellent and collaborative communication and relationship building would also be needed. A first degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, with evidence of ongoing professional development would be essential.
