The role

Having celebrated a new pathway to the professional game in the last 5 years with Bristol Bears, our Women's programme truly celebrates a Dual career in academic and sporting excellence in Rugby. The University of Bristol is now investing more into our Women’s Rugby Club by hiring a new Performance Coach to join us on a part time basis, to drive the ambitions of reaching the BUCS National League and developing the pathway.

Reporting to the Head of Rugby, you will develop, deliver and manage a coaching, playing and preparation programme to optimise performance and deliver on strategic aspirations for the Women’s Rugby Club whilst assisting in the Men’s performance programme. In addition, you will lead on player and coach development by ensuring pathways are logical, considered and deliberate.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide leadership, direction and commitment to players and coaches about training, competition and personal development.  Use appropriate analysis methods to provide constructive feedback for coach, team and player development.   
  • Work with fellow coaches to ensure all teams/athletes are represented and coached at fixtures and training sessions as required. 
  • Report to the relevant manager, providing termly performance reports, and meet regularly with Performance Team. 
  • Provide positive, knowledgeable support to the wider team as required, acting as a point of escalation for the most complex queries.  
  • Monitors spend against a delegated budget and work with colleagues to increase income and grow the programme. 
  • Design, create and promote preseason programmes with the Performance Sport Team and Support service staff. 
  • Promote a culture of anti-doping in sport, maintain awareness of UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) regulations.

You should apply if

  • Proven experience of working in rugby and coaching/leading in programmes.
  • National Governing Body coaching award, equivalent to NVQ level 4, with relevant accreditation. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the sport at national, and regional levels in England and wider
  • Experience of successfully playing, coaching and leading teams
  • Knowledge and understanding of recruiting talented athletes into a Pathway/or University/professional environment
  • The ability to produce development plans and present a clear consistent message effectively to create an engaging learning environment
