An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Head of Research Technology to join the University’s James Watt Nanofabrication Centre on a permanent basis.
About the role
As the Head of Research Technology, you will assume a leading role in coordinating and overseeing all technical aspects of a diverse research/ teaching service within the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JNWC), shaping the strategic and operational direction for a highly complex and large-scale service, to allow for the delivery of world-class technology facilities and infrastructure.
You will offer strategic and functional senior technical leadership to Principal Investigators, research and teaching staff, technicians, and students, providing recognised expert guidance to other technical specialists. You will be responsible for all managerial aspects of the specialist service area including contributing to the strategic direction of research/teaching, provision of specialist advice and training to service users, management of resources (including technical and operational staff), financial management and responsibility for health and safety, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, University policy, and best practice.
In addition, the post holder will take the lead in developing novel techniques or systems and in formulating policies that significantly influence the strategy, structure, and activities within the JNWC. Through innovative design of complex apparatus, equipment, or systems, you will develop and implement cutting-edge techniques and practices.
About you
With significant relevant work experience within similar research services environment, including evidence of previous outputs and professional development, the successful candidate will be recognised as an expert and authority in a technical field.
You will have experience of leading on the development of a research services strategy, planning resource allocation and achieving high-quality research outputs, and possess significant breath or depth of specialist technical knowledge.
You will have proven analytical and technical/scientific problem-solving capability gained over a substantial period of working at progressively higher levels of technical complexity and influence, with an ability to summarise and simplify complex data sets giving clear messaging that facilitates effective decision making by JWNC Leadership Team and senior UofG management.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent).
