Are you passionate about educating the next generation of natural scientists? We are seeking a number of Associate Lecturers for the School of Natural Sciences, at the Faculty of Science, Birkbeck, University of London.

We're looking for Associate Lecturers to teach the following modules:

Introduction to Molecular Cell Biology - this role will contribute to teaching on the first year of BSc Biomedicine programme, giving an introduction to molecular cell biology. This is for a 15 credit, Level 4 module, taught in the Autumn term, teaching two modules; one in the afternoon and one in the evening.(66 contact hours of teaching).

Cell Membranes and Bio-Energetics - this role will contribute to teaching on the first year of the BSc Biomedicine programme. This is for a 15 credit, Level 4 module, taught in the Spring term, teaching two modules; one in the afternoon and one in the evening.(60 contact hours of teaching)

As an Associate Lecturer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging lectures and tutorials within a predefined programme of study.
  • Supervising student projects, dissertations, field trips, and placements as necessary.
  • Developing and updating teaching materials to meet defined learning objectives.
  • Setting, marking, and assessing work and examinations, providing feedback to students, and undertaking administrative duties to maintain key records

The ideal candidate for the Associate Lecturer role should have:

  • Formal teaching experience, preferably within a Higher Education environment or with adult learners.
  • Good level of information, communication and technology skills, particularly in relation to standard packages and virtual learning environments such as Moodle, Panopto, Teams, Office 365.
  • Willingness to engage within a HyFlex learning environment with elements of both in-person teaching and online materials.
  • A commitment to working with diversity and an ability to relate well to students, particularly adult learners.
  • A postgraduate degree in an appropriate specialism.

Module syllabus has been designed and teaching materials exist, although there is some freedom to refine these.

Remuneration

Starting rate £66.70 per hour, inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay for contact hours worked.

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous. The hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
