Salary: £37,099 to £46,974 per annum, pro rata for part-time - Grade: I / J depending on prescriber qualification
Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 9th July 2024

Job Ref: SUPP111178

The role

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced professional to deliver a high quality service within a dynamic and rewarding environment.  University of Bristol Students’ Health Service is a GP practice for Bristol university students and their dependents.

To apply for the role, you will be an experienced Mental Health Nurse (Band 6 equivalent) or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a prescribing qualification (Band 7 equivalent). Ideally you will have experience or knowledge relevant to working with the student age group and/or primary care.

This is a full time role working 5 days per week (Monday – Friday). We would consider part time applications:  please state in your application if you are interested in part time hours.  Occasional working on a Saturday or weekday evening, and some cover of university closure days is also required.

What will you be doing?

You will work closely with the GP and Psychology teams within the practice to support student mental health, liaising with other support agencies, both within the University and in Secondary Care as required.

You will work independently, providing assessment, treatment, and referral of patients predominantly with low mood, anxiety and depression.

You will work with the SHERPA (Student Health Emotional Regulation Pathway) to facilitate group working and assessment.

You will be responsible for carrying out annual reviews for patients on the Mental Health Register.

You will act as an independent nurse practitioner, demonstrating a high level of practice and knowledge whilst participating in direct evidence-based patient care.

You should apply if

You are enthusiastic about working with young people, work well in a multidisciplinary environment and are confident to work with risk issues. Experience of working in a university or similar type of setting would be desired but is not essential. Prior experience with therapeutic approaches such as Therapeutic Group facilitation, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy or Mentalisation based therapy would also be an advantage.

The post holder will be required to have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and 2-3 years of post-qualification experience in the UK. They will be expected to work autonomously in their individual clinical duties but will also work collaboratively with the Student Health Service Team in delivering care. Line management will be provided by the practice’s Consultant Clinical Psychologist with regular psychological supervision also provided. There will be opportunities for further training and professional development.

We are a close and friendly primary care practice clinical team that includes GPs, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists and other allied professionals at an award-winning university health service. We would encourage a visit to the practice to meet the team prior to application.
