Job Summary

The School Secretariat supports initiatives to improve the quality of our MBBS, Intercalated BSc and BSc Medical Biosciences programmes, enhance the student experience and ensure that the requirements of our regulator, the General Medical Council, are met.

As the Deputy Head of School of Medicine Secretariat, you will hold a key role within this section, at the heart of our Faculty Education Office, providing high-grade, agile support to the Head of School of Medicine Secretariat to enhance quality management and governance procedures and coordinating a diverse range of activity to improve student satisfaction through the development of appropriate solutions.

Duties and responsibilities

The multifaceted role responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the collection and analysis of quality data, including internal and external survey mechanisms, identifying trends and using the results to propose solutions to problems and in support of the student experience.
  • Leading the return of internal governance audits on an annual basis and the updating of programme and module specifications to ensure robust content management.
  • Overseeing the FEO’s committee structure and associated operating procedures, providing training and guidance to secretaries where appropriate.
  • Liaising, communicating and relationship-building within school and external bodies, such as partner NHS Trusts and General Practices, utilising and leading on different communications strategies and content.
  • Working with the Head of School Secretariat to implement the overall strategy for the School and ensuring that this is reflected in the operational activities of the department.

Essential requirements

To excel in this role, you will have the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • A demonstrable expertise in quality assurance in an education or training environment.
  • Experience of governance practices, adherence to regulations and codes of practice and the implications of non-compliance.
  • Demonstrable ability to undertake research, analyse information and make judgments and decisions based on the outcome.
  • Experience of managing projects from conception to completion, with the ability to prepare relevant project documents and deliver results in a timely fashion and to a high standard.
  • A methodical and analytical approach with a high degree of attention to detail, an enthusiastic and proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, coordinate a range of workflows and manage your own workload to agreed timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills, enabling you to build and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.

The is a full time and fixed term role until May 2025, based at the Charing Cross Campus.
