Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, empathetic individual with excellent administrative and organisational skills and a passion for supporting and improving the pastoral care of students to join our team within the Department of Life Sciences.

You will have specific responsibility for ensuring the quality of pastoral care of our undergraduate students. Working closely with the Director of the Undergraduate Studies, the Senior Tutors (Academic Progress), and Year Heads, you will be responsible for the development and coordination of pastoral support structures within the Department. As well as leading the provision of pastoral care, you will manage and administer the mitigating circumstances and attendance monitoring processes, the personal tutoring system and lead on the acquisition and use of data analytics to proactively support student progress. 

You will ensure the delivery of a quality pastoral care system and will support educational initiatives, monitoring and reviewing the current systems and building upon these to improve the provision. You will be a key member of departmental education committees and will support and encourage social initiatives to build and further a sense of community. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the provision of pastoral care of undergraduate students in Life Sciences
  • Manage and administer the mitigating circumstances process within Life Sciences
  • Administer the attendance monitoring process and acquisition and use of data analytics to proactively support pastoral care and academic progress of Life Sciences students
  • Manage and support the personal tutoring system within Life Sciences

Essential requirements

  • Degree in Life Sciences or relevant Professional qualification
  • Experience with management of student wellbeing or other student support
  • Experience of contributing and collaborating at a senior level within organisations
  • Past or current management of a higher-education programme of studies
  • Experience of implementing new processes to transform ways of working
  • Specialised knowledge of UG teaching and course administration
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team effectively
  • Ability to lead, design, implement, and evaluate wellbeing support
  • Effective negotiation and presentation skills
  • Adept at providing direction and overseeing the work of others
  • Receptiveness to new and innovative ideas and approaches, as well as range of different experiences
