The role

The University of Bristol is looking for an exceptional Virtual Production Supervisor to lead on all virtual production activities for the MyWorld programme in the new Production Studio at ‘The Sheds,’ part of the University’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.

MyWorld:

The MyWorld programme is delivered by a consortium of universities, companies and non-for-profit organisations in the UK’s West of England region. Led by University of Bristol and backed by a 5 year, £30m investment from UK Research and Innovation, MyWorld is catalysing sustainable growth in the region’s creative economy through investments in creative technology research and development, skills training, and development of cutting edge experimental production facilities.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide specialist technical operation of the virtual production stage and all components of the VP workflow including management of spatial positioning and viewing angles to ensure correct perspective; motion capture technologies for camera and asset tracking; colour correction and lighting solutions and rendering technology.
  • Provide technical expertise to production and research colleagues in support of experimental productions, industry demonstrations and research shoots.
  • Engage with MyWorld colleagues in the development and delivery of training for research staff, students and industrial collaborators.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of industry facing short courses
  • Supervise services users and technical staff, including freelance contractors and students, using the virtual production stage.

You should apply if

  • Career Background: Experience in commercial studios delivering virtual production services for TV, film, or games.
  • Professional Roles: Current or past roles such as VP Supervisor or Senior VP Technician.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive knowledge of operating virtual production stages and relevant hardware (LED panels, lighting and tracking systems, servers).
    • Proficiency in all aspects of the virtual production workflow, including perspective correction, camera and asset tracking approaches, rendering solutions, and colour correction.
  • Industry Networks: Strong creative industry connections across the UK.
  • Adaptability: While university experience isn’t required, you should be prepared for a different environment compared to a commercial studio.
  • Innovation and Excitement: Enthusiasm for working on highly innovative projects with varying requirements and technical challenges.
  • Collaboration Skills: Comfort with dealing with uncertainty and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Additional information

Please note that this role internally is known as ‘Technical Expert, Virtual Production’

We can consider hybrid working for this role, e.g. three days in the studio and two days working remotely. You will need to be present in the studio when shoots are taking place.

Contract type: Open Ended with fixed term funding until 30/06/2026
