The role
A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work in the Lennox Lab (www.LennoxLab.com) to work on the development of novel synthetic fluorination methodologies.
What will you be doing?
You will be required to work on multiple projects simultaneously, but your primary responsibility will be on the design and synthesis of complex molecules, and the development of new synthetic methodology using the tools of organic electrochemistry and hypervalent iodine. Density functional theory (DFT) will be used extensively to assess the mechanisms of reactions that are developed. This exciting multidisciplinary project will involve a combination of techniques associated with inorganic and organic synthesis, computational calculations and electrochemistry.
You should apply if
You should have a PhD in Chemistry or have submitted your thesis prior to taking up the appointment. You will have a keen interest and enthusiasm to expand your expertise into new areas and in unfamiliar disciplines, to work on high risk/high reward projects, and to work beyond the traditional boundaries of organic synthesis both independently and through collaboration. You will have extensive expertise and expertise in organic/inorganic synthesis, computational chemistry, hypervalent iodine chemistry, and organic electrochemistry. You will be comfortable in the safe handling of toxic and hazardous materials, and be proficient in the accurate characterisation of complex organic molecules. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and will be capable of working under your own initiative. You will be expected to interact productively with other members of the research group working on related projects.
