The Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR) at the University of York is looking for a Research Associate with experience in dissemination and impact to support an AHRC-funded project in its final year. 

‘Can the Arts Save Human Rights? Human Rights Truth-Claims in a Post-Truth Era’ is a research project led by the CAHR and is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), part of UK Research and Innovation.

The Research Associate will join a multidisciplinary team at an exciting point in the project, to maximise the use of commissioned art and activism outputs; engage with external partners; and communicate research findings to practitioner, policy and public audiences.

The post will be based at CAHR and will work closely with the Arts Truth PI, Professor Paul Gready, and the CoIs based in York and overseas. This is a part-time position (14.8 hours per week) and the salary range is £36,024 - £44,263. The position is available from 1 July 2024 (or soon after, upon agreement).

Role

The Research Associates main focus will be:

  • To play a leading role in dissemination and impact-related activities.
  • To contribute to research support and outputs.
  • To support and coordinate activities and project staff in particular in relation to impact and dissemination.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The following are role-specific essential requirements:

  • A first degree in relevant social sciences or humanities discipline
  • PhD in a similar field, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of human rights and the human rights and related sectors
  • Knowledge of collaborative working and methods, both across academic disciplines, and involving external partners
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with audiences including activists, policy-makers, artists, and the public, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to write up research for publication and to engage in public dissemination/engagement
  • Competency to conduct individual and collaborative activities linked to a research project
  • Ability to develop a social media strategy and profile for research / a project
  • Experience of carrying out dissemination and impact-related activities linked to research
  • Experience of writing up research work for publication, and presenting research in more accessible formats
