Role Description
We are aiming to recruit a new group leader in cancer immunology to work in the area of epithelial cancers. We are looking for a scientist with a strong, competitive track record in tumour immunology and exciting ideas to develop an independent research programme that will complement and expand existing research strengths in York. The post holder will be based in the Jack Birch Unit (JBU) within the Department of Biology and be a member of the York Biomedical Research Institute (YBRI). We are looking for a researcher with interests in mechanisms of immune evasion and/or cancer immunotherapy, whose expertise can build upon existing strengths across the Department and University. We are especially keen to receive applications from candidates whose work can show synergy with ongoing work within the JBU and YBRI.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and talented research fellow to join the JBU and develop their own research programme. Cancer immunotherapies have transformed patient outcomes, yet significant challenges remain. We are looking to support a fellow towards taking on some of these challenges. The successful candidate will benefit from access to the core Biosciences Technology Facility, a research challenge-driven and inclusive environment, and a wide range of resources, including the unique human urothelial cell/tissue systems established in the JBU. Overall, we anticipate that the fellow will collaborate with biologists, immunologists, and informaticians in the JBU and YBRI to launch their own ambitious and competitive research programme.
The first 3 years of the post will be funded as a research post by York Against Cancer, with the Department/University funding up to a further 2 years and the fellow supported to apply for further external independent fellowship funding and/or a Lectureship position in the Department.
You will have a strong first degree and PhD in immunology or a related discipline with commensurate experience, with expertise in human cell and molecular immunology and an excellent publication record. You will be enthusiastic and have the collaborative skills and knowledge to work with others in multidisciplinary teams.
If you have further enquiries, please contact Professor Jenny Southgate at j.southgate@york.ac.uk.
The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.
We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.
We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
