The Film Department at Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Senior Teaching Associate in Film Studies to cover the work of a member of staff who is taking maternity leave. You will join a team which delivers highly ranked BA and MA programmes in Film Studies.

The Department of Film at Lancaster University is one of the leading Film departments in UK universities, currently ranked 2nd in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. The number of undergraduate students taking our single-honours and combined degrees has increased rapidly in recent years. We also teach a recently introduced and successful MA programme and several students start PhDs in film each year. At all of these levels students can study both theory and history of film and film practice. We have a partnership with the BFI and links with the Dukes Cinema in Lancaster. Recent projects have included film-making with asylum seekers in the local area and the Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive project to investigate and celebrate experience of cinema-going in the UK in the 1930s and beyond.

This role involves delivering excellent research-led teaching and contributing to a range of modules at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, and participating in the administration of teaching and public engagement in the department. We are particularly looking for candidates who have expertise in cinema and history and/or in global cinema, but we welcome applications from all candidates whose expertise could link with and add to the existing strengths in the department (Transnational Cinemas, Film Theory and Philosophy, Film history, Hollywood Cinema, African American Cinema, Asian Cinema, Middle Eastern Cinema, Film Practice).

We are fully committed to equality and diversity in our recruitment and employment policies.  We operate family-friendly hours for core meetings and requests for flexible working will be considered. We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
