The University of Glasgow, established in 1451, is a member of the UK's Russell Group of leading universities. The University is committed to enhancing its position as one of the world's great broad-based research-intensive universities.

It is the University of Glasgow’s mission to foster an inclusive climate, which ensures equality in our working, learning, research and teaching environment. We strongly endorse the principles of Athena SWAN, including a supportive and flexible working environment, with commitment from all levels of the organisation in promoting gender equality.

Applications for the post are welcome in any research areas in Applied Mathematics (broadly construed and including integrable systems and mathematical physics), that complement and/or make links between the existing strengths within the School. The post-holder will develop, lead and sustain research of international standard in Applied Mathematics; contribute to teaching, assessment, project supervision and curriculum design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and participate in School management and organisation.

For appointment at Reader, you will have an outstanding track record of national and international distinction and leadership in research, including publications, income, and awards, bringing external recognition and distinction to yourself and the University.

Research has shown that women and members of other underrepresented groups are reluctant to apply for a position if they feel they do not meet all the advertised criteria. We encourage potential candidates to still consider applying and to contact any of the following for an informal discussion:

The School of Mathematics & Statistics is the home of the Mathematical Sciences within the University of Glasgow.  It is one of the six Schools which constitute the College of Science and Engineering, which in turn is one of the four Colleges within the University. The School is large, growing and diverse. It offers full undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at all levels and it undertakes research of high international standard. We have research groups of international excellence in all three of the main areas of the subject, traditionally described as pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics, although we increasingly have research activity which blurs these descriptions. The School has over 70 academic staff across pure and applied mathematics, and statistics, together with over 100 PhD students, 25 research assistants and is supported by 20 student support, administrative, and IT staff. We currently have 3 Rankin-Sneddon Research Fellows, in addition to various externally funded fellowship positions.

All interviews and presentations will be held on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th June 2024.

Closing date: 23.45 GMT on 19th May 2024
