Background
City St George’s University Students’ Union is dedicated to enhancing the student experience. The Advice and Support Service provides free, impartial, and confidential support on academic and personal issues. As an Academic Adviser, you will be part of a dynamic team, managing complex caseloads and offering independent advice to empower students. The Union represents over 27,000 students, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met through various services and support mechanisms.
Responsibilities
The Academic Adviser in the Union provides professional, impartial, and confidential advice on academic and personal issues. Responsibilities include managing academic casework, offering advocacy and specialist advice, supporting students through appeals and misconduct cases, and delivering financial guidance. The role involves maintaining accurate case notes, creating a safe space for students, and contributing to workshops and materials. Additionally, the Adviser supports the development of the service, ensuring high standards and a customer-focused experience for all users.
Person Specification
The successful candidate should have relevant experience as well as knowledge of higher education systems and relevant legislation. They will have proven experience in providing advice and managing complex caseloads, with strong advocacy skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to create a supportive environment for students. The candidate should be proficient in maintaining accurate case notes and reports, and have strong organizational skills to prioritise tasks effectively.
