Background
The School of Science & Technology offers a wide range of courses at bachelors and masters level, with its research being organised in Research Centres across three departments.
Technical staff in the School of Technology work in teams or individually, supporting core teaching and research in Electrical, Electronic, Biomedical, Aeronautical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering
As a member of the School's technical team, the post holder is expected to adopt a flexible and co-operative approach, to ensure best practice and a commitment to provide high quality services to both students and staff and external visitors to the university. You will work with a highly talented and motivated team and there will be substantial opportunities to gain new experience.
Responsibilities
This post will be broad-based, providing technical assistance to a range of teaching and research areas depending on the subject background, knowledge, and skills of the successful candidate,. This could include, for example, manufacture of equipment for research and teaching, electrical and electronic skills, or assisting in day-to-day activities and/or staff in laboratory areas. In the first instance it would be expected that the successful candidate would wok under the direction of an experienced member of the technical staff with a greater level autonomy developing as the role progresses.
Person Specification
This post is directed at graduates and as such potential candidates will have graduated at Bachelor level in a relevant engineering discipline. This is a trainee role and it is recognised that prospective candidates will have limited technical ability. The successful candidate will therefore be mentored by highly competent Technical staff.
