An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology department at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science for an individual to join our team as a technician. This team ensures the smooth and safe operation of the Veterinary Pathology facilities and associated activities. The technicians play a crucial role in maintaining the pathology service facility and supporting teaching delivery over 50 weeks of the year. Their responsibilities include essential housekeeping and safety duties, as well as delivering pathological postmortem services to users such as Clinical Associates, the RSPCA, and the Police, ensuring the fulfilment of year five rotation teaching deliverables.
We are seeking a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication abilities. They should demonstrate a methodical approach to tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and the ability to work effectively under pressure. The candidate should also be capable of understanding and addressing non-routine work effectively. Previous experience in a pathology and/or laboratory environment and in operating heavy machinery would be desirable.
The ideal candidate will possess good manual dexterity and must be able to lift and move objects, as this role involves storing and moving consumables and equipment. Additionally, a full UK driving licence is required.
Candidates must have a minimum of two A-levels in relevant subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications (NVQ, City and Guild) along with some experience in a relevant technical/scientific role or have considerable work experience in a relevant technical/scientific role.
This is role is covering maternity leave working full time 36.25 hours per week, fixed term for 12 months. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
