The MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Therapeutic Genomics at the University of Oxford is an ambitious, international, collaborative research programme focused on pioneering genome-targeted therapies for rare genetic disorders. With substantial new funding, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Public and Patient Involvement Manager to lead and implement innovative engagement strategies that ensure meaningful patient and public participation in our research.
We have seen genetic therapies deliver dramatic cures to previously untreatable disorders, including spinal muscular atrophy and sickle-cell disease. Thousands more disorders could benefit from these approaches, but the process of developing these is too slow and expensive. We aim to revolutionise this process through data sharing, collaboration, systematic high-throughput methods, and applying artificial intelligence.
Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is critical to the success of the MRC CoRE, and we have a bold vision to be world-leading in our engagement practices. This role is central to embedding inclusive research by ensuring that patients, families, and wider communities have a voice in shaping research and its outcomes. Working directly with Prof. Ronjon Chakraverty, Co-Director for Stakeholder Engagement and PPIE, and the Head of Operations, you will develop and deliver an impactful PPIE strategy, support researchers in building engagement capacity, and establish long-term relationships with key patient and public stakeholders.
As Public and Patient Involvement Manager, you will ensure PPIE is embedded across all research activities, develop engagement frameworks, lead training initiatives, and contribute to national and international discussions on best practices in public involvement. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how genetic research engages with and benefits the public.
This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract initially until 31 December 2031. Part-time applications at a minimum of 0.8 FTE may be considered with a commensurate adjustment in responsibilities and duties.
The Department of Paediatrics holds the Athena Swan Gold award (a national gender equality charter) acknowledging the innovative policies and practices developed across the department. We encourage staff to develop their skills by offering all staff ten paid days of professional development each year and have a policy where staff can apply to receive funding for further training.
To apply, please click on the ‘Apply’ button above.
Only online applications received before 12.00 midday on Wednesday 14 May 2025 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
