Engineering and Direct Works
This full-time post is available on a permanent basis.
Summary of the role
The post of Direct Works Manager within Estate Services is part of the Engineering and Direct Works Maintenance team. It provides the managerial and technical lead for the delivery of planned preventative and reactive maintenance by the inhouse maintenance team. Thereby ensuring that the University’s estate is maintained in a statutory compliant condition, with minimal downtime across its activities.
Engineering and Direct Works is responsible for carrying out an exceptionally diverse range of tasks. This includes but is not limited to legislative compliance; inspection testing; and reactive and planned maintenance of high, low, and extra low voltage commercial/domestic electrical systems. Fire alarms, emergency lighting, commercial and domestic electric and gas appliances. Mechanical plant installations (HVAC) including plumbing, and pressure systems.
The department also provides structural maintenance: carpentry and joinery; locking systems; bricklaying; painting and decorating and numerous other tasks. In addition, the team supports the day-to-day maintenance of the energy management system and supports setting up equipment and attending University and other external functions and events in the Great Hall, Lemon Grove, and for other temporary events across the University.
