The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is seeking to recruit an experienced student disability support professional to lead, manage and develop its Disability Service, located within the School’s Student Centre.
The role holder will be responsible for a caseload of often complex student work, and will provide specialist, individually tailored, one-to-one advice and guidance to help students (and the staff members who work with them) to address the barriers to their learning experience as a result of disability, including complex mental health conditions.
The role holder will be expected to foster close working relationships with colleagues across the Student Centre (which also includes the Student Advice Service and Counselling Service) and the wider School, in order to provide a professional and efficient service.
The successful applicant will show an understanding of the particular demands of a higher education environment in respect of disabled students, across all disability types including specific learning differences, and a demonstrable ability to make/recommend reasonable adjustments to support individual students. A professional and flexible approach to work, the ability to maintain boundaries, to work calmly under pressure and to identify those at risk, and to respond in a calm, assistive and practical way are essential.
