Lecturer in Pharmacy Education

Description of Post

Working closely with other staff in the Department of Pharmacy, the successful candidates’ role will have two parts as Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice, and as Practice Educator.

The successful candidates’ role will be to:

• manage, coordinate and ensure delivery of MPharm practice placements on behalf of ATU students in conjunction with APPEL;
• work closely with APPEL, in the management, coordination, administration and assessment of MPharm practice placements;
• act as the key point of contact and conduct in-person visits to practice placement training establishments, preceptors and tutor pharmacists, professionals and others across all sectors of pharmacy practice to oversee student placements and work experience;
• act as key point of contact for ATU students in coordinating placements and providing pastoral care to students over the full duration of mandatory practice placements in the 4th and 5th Years of the MPharm programme;
• ensure that processes are implemented for the completion of all placement requirements;
• in conjunction with APPEL, engage in promotional activities on behalf of ATU to maintain interest in the provision of practice placements and secure new placement opportunities across the region and nationally
• with a particular focus on practice placements, support the delivery teaching, learning and assessment within the discipline of Pharmacy Practice, including ePortfolios, OSCEs and the Professional Registration Exam;
• engage in relevant research, which will expand the research expertise and activity in the wider Faculty of Science and Health;
• maintain contemporary experience of pharmacy practice in contributing to delivery of the MPharm and other programmes.

Essential Qualifications

• An MPharm Degree at Level as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), or equivalent pharmacy qualification.
• Three years relevant post-qualification experience.
