About the role:

Are you a motivated digital communicator with a passion for science?  

We have a fantastic job opportunity for a digital communications officer to join the Faculty of Natural Sciences’ Digital Services team, where you’ll play a leading role in communicating the Faculty’s strategic objectives and ongoing activities, with an emphasis on world class teaching and research, and the diverse and successful achievements of our staff and students. 

Demonstrating a sound understanding of our audiences, you will take ownership of Faculty communications activity, and will plan and create varied and engaging multi-channel communications content, increasing awareness and understanding of the Faculty’s core activities.

You will improve the user experience of visitors to our websites and external communications channels and will champion proactive communications activity, website design and digital content best practice.

What you would be doing:

You will plan, research, and create original communications content to help raise awareness and understanding of Faculty activities, and manage our core communications channels and output, including websites, social media, newsletters, and blogs. 

You will be responsible for the ongoing development of the Faculty’s websites, and will provide support to staff and students on how to use various communications channels and general digital best practice. 

What we are looking for:

You will have:

  • excellent writing, subediting and proofreading skills for the web and other digital media channels;
  • outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills; 
  • strong technical digital communications skills, particularly in web content and social media; 
  • experience of specialist science communications within a digital communications environment; 
  • experience of digital media best practice, including a user-centric approach to content, usability testing and accessibility; 
  • knowledge and experience of brand, content and digital communication governance and best practice requirements
