The School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh invites applications for a full time Student Adviser to support students to fully participate and succeed in their chosen courses of study, working closely with university academic and support staff and external agencies as required. 

The Opportunity:

Student Advisers provide a first contact point for students within the School of Informatics, providing guidance and support, including additional assistance where needed, to those navigating the University support systems. Working closely with academic and professional services teams, the role will enable students to achieve their potential, as well as ensure parity of experience for all students.  

The salary for this post is £34,132 to £39,355 per annum.

This is a maternity leave cover position for 1 year (or ending May 2026). The role is hybrid with the option to work from home 1 day per week.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent level qualifications and relevant work experience, or broad experience, acquired through a combination of job related training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles. 
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student wellbeing and support.
  • Experience of working independently and ability to prioritise workloads in the face of conflicting demands.   
  • Excellent written communication skills. 
  • Competent IT skills (e.g. Outlook, Word). 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - remaining calm under pressure, being able to provide a safe and welcoming space for students in distress.
