About the role:

Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill street campus. 

The Student Experience Manager post will work with the School leadership to plan and manage a range of functions within the School which contribute to the development of an optimised student experience.  As the School’s professional services lead for this area, the post holder will ensure that the support provided to student experience projects provides an efficient and effective service which is of the highest standards.

What you would be doing:

You will provide professional advice and management support to the Head of Professional Development Tutoring during the implementation of the newly designed Professional Development Tutor programme. Working to the established procedures, you will be responsible for managing the process of recruiting, onboarding, training and supporting the tutors.  You will develop an understanding of the student support offerings available to PCSM from both universities and will liaise effectively with staff, including participating in internal or external meetings relevant to the role to ensure that PCSM is represented.  You will provide advice and support to the tutors on the student support framework for PCSM.

You will lead the School’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), in collaboration with colleagues at Imperial and the University of Cumbria (UoC).  You will lead the development of the EDI strategy for the PCSM, ensuring that it is supportive, well-balanced and practical.  Once developed, the strategy will require implementation – this may include through arranging or providing training or overseeing packages of work to meet the strategy objectives. 

What we are looking for:

  • A first degree and relevant formal training in social justice or EDI.
  • Experience of working as an EDI/Social Justice professional
  • Experience of policy development and project management
  • Knowledge of medical education in the UK HEI sector, including knowledge and understanding of the NHS environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

This is a Part time (0.4 FTE), fixed term role for 18 months based at Fusehill Street Campus, Carlisle
