The London Center for The College of Global Studies is seeking to appoint an Adjunct Lecturer for a course commencing early September 2025: FIN 310 Operations Management.

Approximately 150 - 200 US students participate each year on Arcadia’s Programmes through the London Center, taking a range of humanities, social sciences and business subjects. The adjunct lecturer reports to the Associate Director of Academic Affairs.

This 300-level course explores how the operations manager delivers value through process focus and efficiency. In this course students will learn to identify customer value, and to effectively manage the processes that translate the input of resources into the desired output. Students will develop an understanding of how to think critically about the role of operations management in a wide range of businesses from services to manufacturing. Students will also learn how operations management is interrelated with other functional areas of the firm and use Microsoft Excel as a key learning tool to create solutions to operations-based problems.

The course will be taught in a three-hour session once per week over 12 teaching weeks with a mid semester reading week at the Arcadia London Center in Holborn. Specific hours to be confirmed with the appointed lecturer; flexibility around scheduling is required.

Main Duties

  • Teaching the above class, including preparation of teaching materials for the course
  • Providing a syllabus (built off an existing draft syllabus) and related details by the required deadline
  • Providing academic support to students, either face-to-face, via canvas VLE or by email
  • Arranging/accompanying students on co-curricular trips, where relevant
  • Setting and administering end-of-term examination and other assessments – setting examination questions, invigilation and marking, including some second marking if required
  • Attendance at academic staff meetings (remotely or in-person as required)

Required

  • Masters or equivalent relevant professional experience in related field
  • Past experience of teaching in higher education

Desirable

  • PhD in relevant field
  • Understanding of US higher education system
  • Previous experience teaching within US higher education

Salary

£5,500 for the semester, plus a 3.5% matched pension contribution, paid monthly into a UK bank account.
