Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield 

This exciting post in the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science offers the opportunity for an individual to play a key role in the delivery of the School’s Aerospace Engineering degrees and to help drive forward the School’s portfolio of research and commercial activities. The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with experience and expertise in Aircraft systems, and one or more of the following areas:

  • Aircraft design
  • Aircraft manufacturing
  • Pilot studies
  • Aircraft simulation and/or testing
  • Avionics
  • Systems engineering and management

Main duties and responsibilities

To undertake teaching and assessment in engineering modules, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in Aerospace Engineering and where appropriate in support of subjects elsewhere in the School. You will be required to support learning through the development of course materials, including online content, as well as undertaking necessary administrative, tutorial and laboratory activities in addition to supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects. 

You will be required to engage in research and commercial consultancy activity in manufacturing processes; the role also includes the building of partnerships with external organisations for the purpose of sponsorship and knowledge transfer activities. You may also contribute to our Mechanical Engineering, and Automotive Engineering programmes.

Skills and experience required

The appointee will have sufficient expertise and experience to be able to contribute to the teaching of Bachelors and Masters degree programmes in Aerospace Engineering, including topics as listed above. The appointee should be familiar with engineering software packages such as MATLAB/Simulink, CATIA, STAR-CCM+, and Ansys. See the Job Description for the full list of experience areas sought.

Experience of working in Aerospace Engineering within Higher Education or of working in the Aerospace industry sector is desirable for the lecturer (UH7) role but essential for Senior Lecturer (UH8). Previous experience of teaching or tutoring at undergraduate level and/or postgraduate level would be an advantage for the lecturer (UH7) role but essential for Senior Lecturer (UH8).

Qualifications required

You will have a first degree in Aerospace Engineering or related subject area. Membership of a Professional Institution such as Royal Aerospace Society or Fellowship of Advance HE would be an advantage for UH7 but is essential for UH8.
