Job description:

The Role 

Reporting into the Network Manager the Senior Network Analyst position is key in ensuring the smooth functioning of Newcastle University’s computer network for academics, students and professional services users. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, monitoring, procuring, management, documentation, and support of network services across the University estate. Newcastle University is also at the start of the multimillion-pound investment to replace all wired and wireless network infrastructure across all of it sites with a Campus Fabric IP Clos solution. This role will be involved in both the support of the existing network and its users and documenting and delivering the transition into operations of a new state of the art network. 

The role will involve: 

  • Supporting, troubleshooting, documenting and configuring all aspects of Newcastle University’s network services
  • Planning and delivering complex network projects to agreed timescales and against agreed priorities
  • Working at University sites in and around the Newcastle upon Tyne campus
  • Remotely supporting sites including international campuses
  • Liaising with 3rd party suppliers 
  • Working closely with other NUIT departments such as Cyber Security, Platform & Services and Datacentre Operations to ensure smooth delivery of services which depend on the network
  • Extensive formal and informal training opportunities

About you 

We seek an IT professional with a broad expertise in network technologies. To succeed in this role, you should possess: 

  • The ability to work with, support and mentor other network engineers in the team
  • A desire to deliver high quality support to enable others to do their jobs
  • Demonstratable ability both to produce process documents and follow established process
  • Experience of planning and delivering network projects with minimal service disruption
  • Previous experience installing, configuring, and supporting complex networks across multiple sites
  • Experience working with an ITSM system
  • The ability to manage several competing priorities and deliver on time
  • A desire to work with state-of-the-art network equipment
  • A keenness to learn new skills and systems
