About the Department

The Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) supports researchers across Queen Mary, University of London and Bart’s Health NHS Trust.

Our highly trained team is on hand to support a diverse range of research activities, from getting a project off the ground to ensuring its smooth running and future development. The team members understand where their work fits into the strategic plans and goals of the organisations.

Our services include:

  • Accurate project costing.
  • Tender/application preparation and advice.
  • Assisting with the approvals process.
  • Ongoing financial management of grants/awards.
  • Consultancy and research contracts.
  • Assistance with ethics applications.
  • Support with Research Integrity matters.
  • Assistance with MHRA applications.
  • International Research and Innovation Partnership Support including Export Control, Trusted Research and Partner Due Diligence.

About the Role

Working closely with the Director for Research Operations (DRO), the role holder will contribute to the operational delivery of the JRMO, adopting a solution-focused approach to develop and improve an excellent customer-focused research administration service. 

A key focus of this role will be to provide expert support and guidance to Clinical and Senior Leaders in the administration of current and future Joint Research Initiatives between Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts Health) and Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL). The post-holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the JRMO, QMUL, and Barts Health to ensure financial returns are proportionate to activity and delivery, while maintaining financial transparency and alignment with the strategic objectives of both partners. This will involve engagement at all stages of the study lifecycle, including Pre-Award, Post-Award Oversight/Management, and Partner Relationships. Existing initiatives include the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), the NIHR North London Regional Research Delivery Network, the NIHR Barts Clinical Research Facility, the Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing, and Barts Life Sciences.

The post-holder will lead efforts to streamline and harmonise the research award lifecycle within the JRMO, encompassing pre-award activities, governance approvals, and post-award setup processes. Working closely with the DRO, they will support the integration of JRMO departments, contributing to the development of efficient working practices and fostering a culture of inclusion.
