About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Lead to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. 

This role requires a dedicated Senior Clinical Lead to lead an expansion of Oxford’s accredited laboratory environment to enable the immunophenotyping of biological samples from laboratory and clinical trials to demonstrate vaccine efficacy as part of a broader cancer vaccines discovery and development pathway. The potholder will establish laboratory processes, procedures and resources for the delivery of cutting edge clinical immunophenotyping methodologies.

You will lead the planning and delivery of a clinically accredited (GCP/ISO:15189/ISO:17025) immunophenotyping facility, recruiting and managing a multidisciplinary team.

Additionally, you will report to senior stakeholders through briefings, presentations, and written reports, ensuring decisions are implemented. You will also contribute to publications, funding proposals, and long-term strategic planning for the facility’s sustainability.

The post is based at Oxford Cancer, Churchill Hospital OX3 7LE and is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis until 31st December 2027.

About you

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in cancer immunology or vaccinology and have extensive experience of successful post-doctoral research that involved advanced immune assessment of blood and/or tissue.

You will have experience managing laboratories to GCP, ISO:15189, ISO:17025 or equivalent standards, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and solving complex technical challenges with innovative solutions. You will have experience of successfully managing multi-disciplinary teams of wet lab technicians including overseeing their goal setting, personal development plans, taking corrective action where needed and dealing with sensitive matters when they arise. You will be able to meet multiple tight deadlines, excel under pressure, and balance multiple priorities while ensuring accuracy.

The ability to communicate science to a wide range of audiences, together with a detailed understanding of the regulatory and legal requirements of working on industry-academia partnerships that involve human tissue and/or clinical trials, is essential.
