Job Description
The academic skills tutor is a new role at Bath Spa University London, created to support students’ academic skills development. The chance to develop in this role means this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic skills professional to share their knowledge.
In this role you will enhance students’ learning experiences by teaching the tenets of academic skills and will positively impact student engagement and success.
About the Role
Working with the academic skills manager, professional services and academic staff, this role will contribute to a supportive learning environment for our students in classroom, one-to-one, group and online settings. Using your expertise, you will deliver creative, engaging, interactive, and dynamic teaching to our students. In doing so, you will empower them to develop critical thinking in relation to module content and essential academic writing skills.
Demonstrating your good understanding of academic writing conventions, you will develop academic skills teaching activities and support materials in a range of formats to suit blended learning delivery. The impact of this will be positively shown through the rapport and trust that you will develop with our learners that will encourage them to access the work that you do as a key resource of support.
Celebrating the diversity of the student population at Bath Spa University London, you will endeavour to embed good academic skills amongst our student cohorts ranging from foundation to postgraduate degree level.
About You
The successful candidate will have a good first degree and an English language teaching qualification such as, CELTA, TEFL or TESOL.
You will be an excellent communicator with an adaptable approach to teaching that will allow you to work successfully with our students.
You will have brilliant organisational, administrative and time management skills, and as an academic skills tutor will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and relevant experience in planning and teaching academic skills in further or higher education settings.
Additional information
Some evening and Saturday work will be required for this role. Days off in lieu will be given when this is carried out.
This role requires an enhanced DBS check. The cost of this is covered by BSU.
