Do you have a passion for teaching biology, and macronutrient (carbohydrates, fats, proteins) metabolisms? Join us as an Associate Lecturer delivering the module 'Introduction to Nutrition and Metabolism' to our undergraduate bioscience students this Summer. 

As Associate Lecturer you will teach:

You will contribute to teaching on the first year of our BSc Biomedicine programme, introducing the biochemistry of metabolism to students from a variety of backgrounds who will be at the third term of their undergraduate studies.

You will deliver two teaching sessions: both on Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening. The work would require 54 contact hours of teaching as well as organisation, communication with students, student support, and assessment marking.

To succeed as Associate Lecturer, you will have:

  • a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching within the biological sciences and to providing support to students that fosters academic growth;
  • a PhD in biological sciences (or related discipline) and a sound knowledge of cellular energy metabolism;
  • excellent communication and presentation skills and experience of classroom teaching at undergraduate level: proven ability to deliver material effectively in a classroom setting;
  • experience of and/or willingness to develop skill in providing learning materials via a virtual learning environment (such as Moodle);
  • evidence of supporting students from a range of backgrounds to achieve their potential, and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team and also independently.

The module syllabus has been designed and the teaching materials already exist, although you will have some freedom to refine these and contribute to the design of the assessments, subject to the specifications in place.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract: 

Fixed term contract 29 April - 11 July (marking may exceed date). Please submit a CV and statement for consideration. Closing date: Wednesday 26 March 2025. Interview date: Friday 4, Monday 7 April 2025. 

This role requires 54 contact hours: 7 weeks of classroom sessions (2 sessions per week, 3 h each) & 2 weeks of assessment delivery/invigilation (2 sessions per week, 3 h each).
