The role
The University of Exeter Law School is one of the UK’s leading law schools with an international reputation for world-leading research and teaching. Currently ranked 16th in the UK by The Times (2023), the Law School is committed to furthering the goals of sustainable development and social justice through our teaching, research and impact-generating activities. Situated in the beautiful Streatham campus, the Law School has a strong tradition in EU law and socio-legal studies. We are looking for a Professor who is ready to take the next step in their career and be part of a Law School that is generating pioneering research in sustainable development and social justice. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of fostering a culture of curiosity among colleagues and students as part of our commitment to addressing contemporary global challenges through legal research, education and advice.
The Law School is entering an exciting phase of expansion and future-facing growth. We are thus keen to appoint a Professor (Education and Research) and are interested in candidates able to deliver teaching in any area of law, although expertise in one or more of the following would be desirable: Criminal Law; Company Law; Equity and Trusts; Land Law; Artificial Intelligence and the Law; Intellectual Property Law.
The successful candidate will be recognised internationally as a leading authority in their discipline with an extensive track record of publications, grant capture and impact-generating activities. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver world-leading and internationally excellent publications in their research field, as well as demonstrating pathways for impact and external funding. We are looking for a leading international figure with the ability to attract world-class academics to their research groups. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. We place an emphasis on the delivery of high-quality teaching and we foster an inclusive learning environment by embedding different pedagogic techniques across all levels of the curriculum. The University of Exeter is the only Russell Group University to have achieved triple gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in recognition of our commitment to delivering exceptional teaching, fostering effective learning, and attaining outstanding student outcomes. We especially encourage applications from individuals who bridge traditional legal pedagogic methods with practical skills-based methods such as clinics, practicums, and simulated learning. Leadership experience commensurate with the role of professor is expected.
