Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year 

Main duties and responsibilities

This Senior Lecturer – Small Group Teaching Lead (MBBS) position will lead on the planning, organisation, and delivery of small group teaching sessions, ensuring alignment with MBBS learning objectives and City St George’s curriculum, GMC standards, and best practices in medical education. They will oversee the development and quality management of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Case-Based Learning (CBL) cases, integrating real-world clinical relevance. They will manage the recruitment, induction, and training of PBL/CBL tutors, and monitor the effectiveness of small group teaching through student feedback, peer review, and academic performance analysis. They will contribute to the design and implementation of formative and summative assessments linked to small group teaching, ensuring timely, constructive feedback to students to support their academic progress and addressing student concerns.  

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate will have experience in delivering and facilitating small group teaching, including Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and/or Case-Based Learning (CBL) in medical education and experience in curriculum development, assessment design, and quality assurance in a higher education setting. 

You will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of small group teaching methodologies, including PBL and CBL, and their application in medical education, and have knowledge of GMC standards for undergraduate medical education. You will have a proactive and solution-focused approach, with the ability to innovate and implement best practices in small group learning and the ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching sessions, using student feedback and assessment data to inform improvements. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, tutors and external stakeholders.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a relevant degree in medicine, medical education, or a related healthcare/biomedical discipline and a postgraduate qualification in medical education (e.g., PGCert, PGDip, MSc) or equivalent experience.
