Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year 

Main duties and responsibilities

The Academic Placement Lead for MBBS Programme will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and quality assurance of clinical placements for the MBBS programme. They will work closely with NHS partners, clinical supervisors, MBBS Clinical Lead, the university administration placement team and university academic staff to ensure that placements meet regulatory requirements, align with the MBBS curriculum, and provide an excellent learning experience for students. This role will also include supporting curriculum integration and contributing to the overall student experience, development and implementation of strategies to enhance the inclusivity and effectiveness of clinical education. 

You will develop and oversee robust quality assurance processes for clinical placements, ensuring compliance with GMC standards and regularly review feedback from students and clinical supervisors to identify areas for improvement. The Academic Placement Lead for MBBS Programme will work as an integral part of the department of medicine and will be a professional lead for their subject in terms of strategic contribution to programme development and departmental strategy. 

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate will have experience of placement, teaching, supervising and assessing clinical/medical students. You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of clinical placement as an integral part of the UG/PG/MBBS programme in HEIs. You will possess breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in a science or clinical discipline to develop teaching and research programmes with the ability to assist in curriculum design, implementation, assessment and promotion of the course. You will demonstrate knowledge of student management systems and processes and an understanding of the educational needs of students and cultural awareness.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with an undergraduate degree or equivalent preferably in a clinical field or MBBS and have a postgraduate qualification, i.e. Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) or equivalent in a relevant field or significant experience, as well as a membership of the relevant regulatory/professional body.

In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS checks may require renewal in line with policy.
