Main duties and responsibilities
The Head of Anatomy is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, innovative, research- and evidence-informed, engaging instruction in anatomy to medical students in Years 1 and 2 of the MBBS programme, using the City St George’s University of London (SGUL) Medical School curriculum to meet the standards set by the General Medical Council and Quality Assurance Agency.
The postholder will be part of the MBBS academic team and expected to provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership on the MBBS programme and provide pastoral and academic support for home and international students. They will actively participate in the assessment of students, relevant research within the department and support the ongoing development of qualifications and will collaborate with the wider academic team, contributing to an innovative, evidence-based, and clinically relevant curriculum that prepares graduates for successful medical careers.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will be able to evidence extensive experience in teaching anatomical sciences at undergraduate level within a medical school or similar setting, with experience in developing and implementing curricula, particularly in integrating anatomy with clinical education. You will have experience of teaching anatomy using virtual dissection platforms. You should have a proven track record in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods and technologies, coupled with experience in quality assurance and enhancement of teaching and learning processes. You must have excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate strong leadership ability, critical thinking, flexibility, and resilience. You will be able to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities efficiently, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and external partners.
Qualifications required
A medical degree or an honours degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a PhD/MD in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably anatomy is essential.
