The Research Governance, Ethics and Assurance Team (RGEA) provides expert advice and guidance on regulatory and compliance matters in relation to research involving human participants and acts as the Sponsor Office for clinical research conducted within the UK and overseas. As a member of the Joint Research Office, RGEA works in collaboration with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, and Oxford Brookes University.
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Research Services Department as a Research Ethics Manager in the RGEA Team.
This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working, with a current expectation of at least 50% on-site work, including 2 in-office anchor days.
About the Role
This important position within RGEA works diligently alongside other experienced Research Ethics Managers playing a key role within the University by providing specialist support on research ethics to a wide-range of stakeholders. The role is responsible for the efficient provision and maintenance of systems and processes supporting the University’s internal ethics review and approval procedures of a wide range of research studies involving human participants, including considerations around safeguarding human wellbeing and rights, to protection of identifiable data and/or biological samples.
The role also supports on-going oversight of research projects and providing specialist advice, guidance and training to academics, researchers, and research support professionals and for providing secretariat support to the University’s ethics sub-committees.
You will work closely with world-class researchers, research support staff and administrators across the University, including Social Sciences, Humanities and Medical Sciences Divisions.
About You
We are looking for someone with an experienced background in understanding and applying core principles in research ethics to academic research studies, together with administrative experience of supporting research ethics/governance committees and managing ethics review processes.
To be successful in this wide-ranging and stimulating role, you will need to be someone who strives for excellence and enjoys providing high quality customer service.
Educated to degree level, you will be an excellent communicator, technologically adept, able to prioritise workload, and to work effectively under pressure both independently and as a member of a team. You will also have a positive attitude, be an exceptional line manager with a flexible approach to your work, think innovatively when responding to changes in the research governance landscape, and be comfortable when priorities suddenly need to change.
