About the role:
The new role of Business Development Manager will nurture and develop NWTF relationships to build prestigious projects for the NWTF community that provide impact to the UK economy and society, tackling the government grand challenges of clean economic growth and the future of mobility. This will involve leading the NWTF business development activities defined by the scientific activity of research groups and funders. This role will also promote and generate business for existing and new facilities.
This is an exciting time for the NWTF as it grows into this next phase, offering the new recruit the scope to develop the NWTF and provide real impact to the UK wind tunnel community.
What you would be doing:
The business development manager will:
- Explore and grow new business opportunities.
- Meet new clients, understand their needs, provide relevant solutions.
- Manage the NWTF customer pipeline.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across the business.
- Host subgroup discussion forums for the wider community to generate projects and secure funding. An example project already identified is the open access NASA/Boeing High-Lift Common Research Model (CRM-HL) for low-speed facilities.
- Seek out new joint funding initiatives that are consistent with UK government policies such as green economic growth and future mobility.
- Liaise with agencies in aerospace, automotive and wind engineering sectors to address UK capabilities in experimental aerodynamics.
- Ensure that projects address sector needs for skills and training.
What we are looking for:

- Degree in engineering or physical science.
- First-hand experience in experimental aerodynamics for research and technological innovation.
- Previous experience of business development.
- Commercial awareness.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with others.
- Proven experience of stakeholder management, project planning and dissemination.
- Experience of developing and managing large multi-institutional projects, involving external and internal partners.
- Previous experience of liaising with external bodies including industry.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with a wide range of people.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
