Fixed term for 4 years, Part time (0.2FTE)
The Department of Philosophy in the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies wishes to appoint three part-time (0.2FTE) Professorial Fellows for a duration of four years.
The main purpose of the Professorial Fellow role is to contribute to the collaborative research activity of the Department. The Professorial Fellows will be affiliated to either or both departmental research centres, CEPPA and Arché.
The successful candidates will be distinguished senior scholars, actively engaged in research in one or more of the areas within the remit of CEPPA (normative ethics, applied ethics, political philosophy, legal philosophy, philosophy of climate change) and/or Arché (philosophy of logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, feminist philosophy). They will have a research profile equivalent to that of a full professor in an internationally renowned department. The Professorial Fellows will visit St. Andrews for a period of six weeks per year at least, at a time to be negotiated individually, but typically in spring or early summer. While resident, the Professorial Fellows will participate fully in the seminars and other weekly colloquia associated with Arché or CEPPA.
In addition, each Professorial Fellow will pursue a well-defined program of research within the areas of remit of CEPPA and/or Arché; supervise Postgraduate Research students (MPhil and PhD candidates); occasionally attend CEPPA and/or Arché workshops, seminars, and conferences also in remote mode when possible/desirable; provide expert advice to members of CEPPA and/or Arché on their research (including faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students); collaborate with the Directors and colleagues on the strategic concerns of CEPPA and/or Arché; apply as (co-)investigators for external subsidies in order to fund major research projects to be hosted by CEPPA or Arché.
The stipend offered to each Professorial Fellow is intended to cover the cost of travel to St. Andrews, and accommodation and living expenses during residence.
As part of the application, candidates will provide a research plan explaining the research projects they are to work on during their appointment, and how they will promote CEPPA’s and Arché’s research.
Please see the Further Particulars for details concerning essential and desirable attributes and application procedure.
Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to the Head of the Philosophy Department, Prof. Franz Berto, email: philhod@st-andrews.ac.uk.
