The Role

The main purpose of this role is to produce market research and data insights to support UWL’s course portfolio management & development. The post holder will be the strategic planning lead on activities relating to student recruitment (e.g. analysing the effectiveness of our conversion campaigns), course portfolio development, pricing and competitor/market positioning. Working closely with the Strategic Planning Manager and the analysts in the team, your role will be critical in ensuring that UWL’s course portfolio stays relevant in an ever-changing world.

The Person

The post holder will be the market insight lead in Strategic Planning’s Performance & Analytics team and will be expected to conduct thorough market research on UWL’s audience, existing offering and/or proposed new courses to support UWL’s senior management with course portfolio management and development. You will be a highly analytical individual, with experience working with data and a nous for translating data into actionable insights. You will possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

  • Undertake extensive analysis of complex internal and external datasets (e.g. UCAS, Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), Graduate Outcomes, NSS) to evaluate UWL’s performance and market positioning
  • Create reports and dashboards using a variety of IT packages e.g. (Tableau/PowerBI) to identify longer term recruitment and admissions trends and to support in-cycle decision-making.
  • You’ll need to develop a detailed understanding of the higher education policy landscape and combine that with the data insights you’ll generate to ensure that UWL is positioned ahead of, or at the forefront of the curve in terms of portfolio development
  • You will effectively communicate your findings to colleagues at all levels of the institution be that orally, in writing or in the development of self-service dashboards, presenting on occasion to University groups and committees
  • You will be working within a team that strives to be at the forefront of emerging technologies and analytical techniques. You will be expected to keep abreast of these trends and undertake relevant CPD, sometimes as the sole representative from the team, and feed that back into advancing the quality of work of the department
