The University of Roehampton is seeking a new Deputy Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange within the School of Life and Health Sciences. The School of Life and Health Sciences is an inter-professional community comprised of a blend of science and healthcare practice, driven by the goal of making a difference to our population and planetary health. The school delivers leading education and research in a range of disciplines including: immunology, microbiology, data science, physiology, molecular biology, ecology, sports science, nursing, and occupational therapies. The University was ranked joint number one modern university in the UK for research in REF 2021, with the School of Life and Health Sciences contributing to multiple units of assessment through the Centre for Integrated Research in Life and Health Sciences.
The new Deputy Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange will join the School’s leadership team and report to the Dean of School. They will have responsibility for the development and support of the research community within the school, line managing research active team members and working closely with the Dean to promote a culture of research excellence. They will seek to identify and strengthen synergies between subject areas within the School. Key to this role will be external engagement, in particular strengthening the School’s partnerships with industry. They will lead on the holistic development of knowledge exchange activities within the School, including consultancy services on campus, short courses and CPD provision.
Those with a passion for cross-disciplinary research, innovation and translational impact on population and planetary health, may fit best in this role. Both strategic and operational leadership skills will be required, as well as excellent people skills, communication and project management skills, together with a collaborative approach. The successful candidate will have line management experience and a track record of supporting people's professional development and career aspirations. They will also be skilled at leveraging in depth understanding of subject areas and sector trends to maximise opportunities for sustainable research and knowledge exchange. They will have an excellent understanding of the higher education sector and bring a strong personal research profile with a good track-record in external grant capture and external engagement.
