Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (MTP) research group at the University of Hertfordshire funded by an EPSRC grant held by Dr. Charles Strickland-Constable. The purpose of the position is to contribute original research work in the areas relevant to the project including (exceptional) generalised geometry, geometry of supersymmetric string backgrounds, moduli spaces and deformation theory of geometric structures, twisted supersymmetry, topological field theory and topological strings, L-infinity algebras and the BV formalism. Prior experience of working in these areas would be very desirable.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to carry out original research related to the subject areas of the project, leading to the publication of research outputs including refereed publications in recognised journals. You are also expected to contribute to the positive and productive working atmosphere within the group by, for example, helping with the running of seminar series and journal clubs. You may have the opportunity to help with the supervision of graduate students or undertake some light teaching duties as part of your general academic development.
Skills and experience required
You should have a record of successfully working in a research environment, a record of scholarly work such as published work in peer reviewed journals, and you should have appropriate experience of presenting research findings such as contributions to conferences and symposia at a local and national level. It would be desirable to have experience of mentoring and supervising junior research staff and undergraduate and post graduate students and experience in public engagement activity
Qualifications required
You will hold a minimum of an undergraduate honours degree at a minimum 2:2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. You will hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification), or close to completion of PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience.
Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.
An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
This post cannot be visa sponsored unless the applicant has a PhD / Doctorate.
