Job description:
Are you an experienced indirect tax specialist, looking to contribute more than just ‘compliance’ for a leading local employer? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Tax team at the University of Sheffield. Reporting to the Head of Tax this is a key role in the management of the VAT risks for the University and its group operations.
Whilst managing the day-to-day compliance obligations, you will provide guidance and support on indirect taxes in this varied and challenging environment. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across both Professional Services and Academic Departments to manage VAT risks and costs. Your advice will cover a diverse range of activities and commercial projects, from straight forward queries to complex contract reviews, international issues, and major capital projects.
You will have excellent communication skills that enable you to explain complex information to non specialist audiences. You will enjoy working in a team, and have experience of managing conflicting priorities for yourself and your team. You will have a customer service approach, with a willingness to promote tax and build your network both within and outside of the University.
We require specialist VAT knowledge, and experience of implementing VAT advice in practice. You will have an accountancy or equivalent professional tax qualification, and/or be a tax professional with substantial practical experience in indirect taxes. Experience of partial exemption methods and capital goods schemes is essential. Previous Higher Education experience is an advantage but is not essential.
