Job description:

Are you interested in working for a top-ranked, triple-crown accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) Management School? With world-class facilities, ground-breaking research and cutting-edge thinking, we are seeking applications from ambitious, highly motivated and talented individuals who will be keen to play an active role in further enhancing the Management School’s international reputation for excellence in research, teaching and innovation that has positive societal impact.

We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to support the “Healthy soil, health food, health people (H3)” – a UKRI/BBSRC funded 5 year project of £7.7 million led by University of Sheffield. This PDRA post will focus on supply chain resilience and data science. Focusing on horticulture, hydroponics and hybrid farms, and on the health benefits of biofortification and increased fibre consumption, the H3 Consortium's objectives are: to take a whole-system approach to UK food production and consumption, drawing on the insights of world-leading natural science, social science and health research to work in collaboration with our stakeholders to increase understanding of complex agri-food issues in order to achieve transformative change in the UK food system, and to provide evidence-based solutions to real-world problems, addressing the twin themes of improved dietary health and environmental sustainability.

Bringing together world-class researchers from Sheffield, Leeds, Bristol, Cambridge and City Universities, this proposed research seeks to transform the UK food system from the ground up via an integrated programme of interdisciplinary research on healthy soil, healthy food and healthy people (H3). The H3 Consortium addresses the links between food production and consumption and takes a whole systems approach to identify workable paths towards a transformed UK food system, delivered via a series of interventions: on farm, in food manufacturing, distribution and retail, and in terms of the health implications and inequalities associated with food consumption in UK homes and communities. The proposed research addresses all of the UK government policy drivers outlined in the Call text from diet-related ill health to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, from biodiversity to soil health and water quality, rebuilding trust in the food system, promoting clean growth and supporting the translation of scientific research and new technologies for the benefit of the UK economy and society.
