The above part-time (0.2 FTE) post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis for 1 year in the Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio within the Department of Psychology and Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS). This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

This role is subject to final programme approval.

The role
We are seeking to appoint an Academic Director for the Forensic Psychology Doctorate – (Senior Lecturer) which is available immediately on a fixed-term basis for 1 year.

Main purpose of the job:
You will have responsibility for the academic development of our new Professional Doctorate in Forensic Psychology, and its subsequent leadership and development. This role will include managing and monitoring the academic development of the Doctorate in Forensic Psychology within the Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio and its associated operational administration, curriculum development, and quality management and enhancement (including accreditation / registration by relevant professional institutions where appropriate). You will work with the Director of Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes to develop efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accord with the faculty’s education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy. You will also contribute directly to teaching in one or more of the disciplinary areas the Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio and the Faculty.

Specific Purposes of the job:

  • Lead on the academic development and delivery of the DForenPsy Programme in line with the curriculum.
  • Lead and oversee the assessment strategy including module descriptors, marking process in line with TQA.
  • Moderate assessments across the programme.
  • Lead on Academic components of accreditation / registration submissions as needed in conjunction with the DForenPsy Programme Director and DClinPGR Portfolio Director.
  • Support and mentor programme team members.
  • Lead on recruitment to the academic team with the support of the Programme Director.
  • Provide teaching as needed.
  • Manage the timetable, submission timelines and academic handbook.
  • Lead on development, expansion and marketing of the DForenPsy to support programme sustainability.
  • Contribute to Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio and Faculty working groups and developments as needed.
  • Develop and line manage a Programme Team to support with the delivery of the programme.

About you
For a Senior Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge (demonstrated by a PhD/Professional Doctorate in Forensic Psychology, or equivalent qualification or experience and practice) in order to teach and support learning on Forensic Psychology modules.
  • Possess a good honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline (at least a 2:1 or equivalent).
  • Have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of a very experienced HE Teacher/ be very experienced as a Forensic Psychologist in applied settings with experience of training Forensic Psychologists.
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.
