About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Epidemiology (Non-Clinical). This role presents an opportunity for an early career academic with a proven track record in research to establish and develop their career within a supportive and innovative environment.

As a Lecturer in Epidemiology, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the Centre’s research portfolio, focusing on rheumatic disease epidemiology through the utilisation of large, routinely collected healthcare datasets. Your research will explore critical topics, including the phenotypic variations of immune-mediated inflammatory rheumatic diseases, disease outcomes, mental health impacts, healthcare quality, and pharmacovigilance. By harnessing advanced analytical methods, your work will shape understanding and inform clinical practice in this dynamic field.

You will work closely with Professor James Galloway and Professor Sam Norton. In addition to developing your own research programme, you will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team and external partners to strengthen the Centre’s reputation for impactful research. You will also contribute to teaching and mentoring activities, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students in epidemiology and related subjects.

Joining the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases at King’s College London, you will have the opportunity to work alongside leading experts, access extensive healthcare datasets, and contribute to meaningful research that improves the lives of individuals affected by rheumatic diseases.

This presentation will allow us to assess your academic contributions and suitability for the role.

Following the presentation, candidates who demonstrate strong performance, an impressive track record, and alignment with the department’s goals will be invited for a formal interview in February 2025. This is a full time role and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 September 2029.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• Demonstrated experience in conducting epidemiological research, evidenced by a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Familiarity with clinical research methodologies and an understanding of rheumatic diseases
• Proficiency in advanced statistical analysis techniques and data manipulation for large datasets
• Proven ability to secure external research funding through successful grant applications
• Experience in managing research projects independently, from design to data collection and analysis
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners
• A commitment to conducting research in compliance with ethical guidelines, regulatory standards, and open science practices
• Experience in teaching and/or supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in epidemiology or related subjects

Desirable criteria

• Familiarity with working on large UK healthcare databases, such as electronic health records or national healthcare datasets
• Proficiency in data visualisation tools and techniques to effectively communicate research findings
• Experience in collaborating across diverse academic disciplines to address complex research questions
• Previous involvement in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, including network meta-analysis approaches
