Are you an expert in structural health monitoring looking to apply your skills in real-world settings? Do you have experience working with masonry structures and a passion for ensuring infrastructure safety? Would you like to advance your research career at one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities while collaborating with industry leaders?

We are seeking a dedicated Research Fellow to join the University of Leeds on an exciting project focused on evaluating and implementing a novel IoT-based sensor system for monitoring structural health in masonry structures. This project aims to advance the safety and resilience of civil infrastructure through precise crack monitoring and analysis. As part of this role, you will work initially in a state-of-the-art laboratory setting to refine and apply the custom-built sensors, before moving to real-world field testing in the final stages of the project.

The ideal candidate will hold or about to get a PhD in Civil or Structural Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in structural health monitoring, masonry structures, and sensor-based data analysis. Experience with applying sensing technologies to large-scale structures is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with academic experts and industry partners, including Geotechnical Observations, to validate the sensor’s performance on real masonry structures and contribute to shaping new methodologies in infrastructure monitoring. This role is perfect for someone eager to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical application in the field.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
