The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a part-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow (0.5 FTE) to participate in a project investigating health workforce wellbeing. This National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded post is available on a fixed-term basis from 01 March 2025 until 28th February 2030.
The reasons underpinning the current NHS workforce crisis are complex and nuanced and so we will take a mixed methods realist research approach to address knowledge gaps, and identify, develop and evaluate promising interventions. We are particularly interested in systems-level interventions that target multiple levels e.g. individual, team, organisation. We will use traditional and non-traditional approaches to summarise and share our findings, to reach the widest possible audience, and optimise the conditions for change, drawing on our collective national and international networks.
The successful applicant will work as part of a national team of Research Fellows and academics, across multiple UK universities, in partnership with NHS senior leaders, clinicians, patients and other key stakeholders with an interest in workforce wellbeing. They will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of key elements of this large-scale workforce research partnership project, with strong supervision and support from an experienced wider research team.
The successful applicant will be part of a vibrant wider research community at the University of Exeter through the Health Professions Education and Wellbeing research group (https://medicine.exeter.ac.uk/health-community/research/healthprofessions) and the Care Under Pressure research programme (https://sites.exeter.ac.uk/careunderpressure).
The possibility of remote or hybrid working could be discussed at interview.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in workforce-related topics, or relevant methodologies, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
