The University’s Student Life provision brings together a range of support services for students including counselling, mental health and well-being, disability support, and student finance.
We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Counsellor to work within a well-established mental well-being team providing advice, ongoing support and self-help strategies to students presenting with a range of mental wellbeing issues here at the University.
The post-holder will provide confidential, time-limited counselling interventions and brief drop-in sessions to students and will be responsible for maintaining effective client case notes and service delivery records/data.
Applicants will have relevant post-qualification experience of providing time-limited counselling to an ongoing caseload of clients. They will also be able to demonstrate experience in assessing client need, including appropriate risk assessment/identification of significant risk factors.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate considerable post-qualifying counselling experience, working with young adults from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, ideally within a FE/HE/third sector setting. Experience of providing counselling supervision is also desirable.
The successful candidate will be required to attend and actively contribute to multi-agency weekly risk management processes which monitor those students presenting with significant risk factors. Therefore, experience of multi-agency working is highly desirable.
Applicants should have a relevant recognised professional qualification in counselling/ psychotherapy and hold, or be able to provide evidence of substantial progress towards, practitioner accreditation with the BACP or equivalent professional body.
The post is full-time term-time post, covering approximately 34 weeks of the academic year from September/October through to June.
