About the Role

For informal enquiries, please contact Stan Shire (Professor) at g.s.f.shire@warwick.ac.uk.

We are seeking to appoint a permanent full-time teaching-focussed Assistant Professor to join the Mechanical, Materials and Process Engineering Stream in the School of Engineering. This is a post primarily to support our Electromechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship (EMDA) programme, although there may also be opportunities to contribute to other degree programmes in the School.

This is a key role in the EMDA programme. Working with the Director of Studies in Mechanical, Materials, and Process Engineering and the Head of Teaching, you will manage relationships with other engineering disciplines, departments, and employers of EMDA students. You will have a responsibility to assist with development the course and the curriculum, and you will ensure relevant accreditation requirements are met.

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.

About You

You will have the experience necessary to develop, deliver and manage modules on the Mechanical Engineering side of the EMDA programme, with requirements in mechatronics, engineering design, control engineering and other topics.

You will teach to a high standard in a way compatible with the degree apprenticeship teaching model, which is expected to involve teaching in week-long blocks combined with blended learning at other times. You will use a range of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, seminars and laboratories. You will supervise and co-ordinate group and individual projects, including projects in collaboration with companies. You may also support teaching activity on established courses running in the School of Engineering, particularly relating to our BEng/ MEng courses in Mechanical Engineering.

You will have academic or industrial research experience in the broad areas of mechanical, materials or process engineering, or engineering/technology teaching pedagogy. You are expected to engage in higher education pedagogy and be willing to develop and apply novel teaching methods, embracing changes in teaching technology and expectations.
